About the Event

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health is not merely the absence of mental health challenges. It is the “state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community”.

Kenya is ranked by the World Health Organization as the sixth African country with the highest rates of depression. Some local studies have shown that 36% of work-related illnesses in Kenya are due to stress and burnout.

Despite these statistics, there is an air of indifference surrounding mental wellbeing.

The COVID19 pandemic has revealed to us our deepest vulnerabilities. But there is good news; we can learn how to manage stress, build resilience and avoid mental health issues like burnout.

In response to the demand from our member community, MombasaWorks will host a Mental Health webinar with Sherriz Mideva - counsellor and psychologist - to raise awareness on the range of mental health issues that can occur in our working environments.

At the end of the webinar, we hope that the attendees will:

a) Leave with a better understanding of what some common mental health issues are, like burnout.

b) Understand why mental health needs to be taken seriously for leaders and business owners

c) Learn how mental issues manifest and what to look out for in themselves and colleagues

d) Learn some practical preventative and curative strategies to address some common mental health issues like burnout.
